Sammy's Law

Right now, the New York State House and Senate are considering passing Sammy's Law (S2422), a bill that will allow NYC to set life-saving speed limits for its residents.

If we had a cure for pediatric cancer, we would use it- right? It should be no different with cars killing our kids. We know that slowing cars down saves lives, especially kids' lives. Giving NYC the power to lower speed limits to reflect the reality of our dense environment will save lives. Each one-mile-per-hour increase in a vehicle’s speed results in nearly a 3% increase in the mortality rate. We know that safe speeds work, and it's long past time that New York City had the ability to access this cure for traffic violence.

Send a letter to NY Senate and House leaders to demand they protect your kid from traffic violence and include Sammy's Law in this year's budget. Bonus points- Call Speaker Heastie's office at 518-455-3791 after you email to demand Sammy's law this year.
