On Tuesday, Santa Monica City Council is reviewing recommendations for how to make Santa Monica Boulevard safer. Whatever they ultimately choose will likely not be redesigned for years or decades.

Folks at Santa Monica Forward have read the staff proposal, and it significantly falls short of the city’s goal to make SMB safe and actually eliminate traffic deaths. The design is quite similar to what was done on Wilshire in recent years. Unfortunately, that design led to 4 deaths in the last year or so:
