The Wisconsin Cannabis Activist Network (WISCOCAN) and The Wisconsin Cannabinoid Industry Council (WCIC) is asking every hemp consumer, business owner, farmer, veteran, patient, and supporter to take action today.

At this moment, Congress is negotiating a Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the federal government funded. While much of the attention is focused on spending, there is one critically important provision that could determine the future of the hemp industry nationwide.

Without congressional action, the implementation date for Section 781 will take effect on November 12, 2026, making an estimated 95% of today's lawful hemp products illegal overnight. This would create immediate uncertainty across the country, disrupting thousands of small businesses, eliminating jobs, hurting family farms, and taking away products that millions of Americans—including veterans, seniors, and people seeking wellness alternatives—have come to rely upon.

Fortunately, there is a simple solution.

The White House has already recognized the need for additional time and has asked Congress to include a two-year extension of the implementation date while lawmakers continue bipartisan work on a permanent regulatory framework. Extending the deadline to November 12, 2028 would prevent unnecessary disruption and allow Congress to finish the job the right way.

This is not the final debate over hemp policy. This is about preventing a devastating cliff while lawmakers work toward lasting legislation. If Congress fails to act now, businesses, consumers, and farmers will pay the price long before a permanent solution can be considered.
