Please Support Responsible Hemp Regulation Before December 11
Dear Lawmaker,
Congress has created a short window before most of the broader federal hemp restrictions are scheduled to take effect December 11.
Please use that time to establish a responsible federal regulatory framework that protects children while preserving lawful adult access.
H.R. 9830, the bipartisan Lawful Hemp Protection Act, offers one comprehensive approach now before Congress. It includes age restrictions, product testing and labeling standards, packaging and marketing requirements, restrictions on synthetic cannabinoids, and federal oversight of hemp-derived consumer products.
I support strong regulation, including age requirements, accurate testing, clear labeling, child-resistant and non-child-appealing packaging, responsible marketing, reasonable serving and potency standards, and enforcement against unsafe or mislabeled products.
Protecting children and preserving responsible adult access are not opposing goals.
The current federal language reaches far beyond questionable intoxicating products. It also affects full-spectrum CBD products, family farms, responsible small businesses and an established consumer market.
New research from Whitney Economics estimates the current hemp-derived cannabinoid economy supports roughly 302,000–352,000 jobs nationally, and projects 189,000–226,000 displaced workers if the federal restrictions take effect as written.
Twenty-nine additional days is valuable, but it is not enough time to create and implement a durable national regulatory system.
Please cosponsor H.R. 9830 or support comparable legislation that gives Congress the time and framework needed to regulate hemp responsibly before December 11.
Thank you for considering my views.
Sincerely
