Across Washington State public schools are facing a worsening budget crisis. Dozens of districts are already planning cuts to programs, teacher layoffs, and even school closures.

Unfortunately, the state legislature continues to deliberately and knowingly underfund public education, with state spending per pupil actually shrinking in recent years when adjusted for inflation. That is the true cause of school district budget woes, as declining enrollment by itself wouldn't cause districts to lose this much money.

Time is running out to get the legislature to act and stop these cuts and closures -- the final day of the legislative session is April 23.

Will you take a moment and write to your state legislators and urge them to step up and amply fund our public schools, as the state constitution requires, by passing a wealth tax as well as eliminating the unconscionable cap on special education funding?
