This week Mayor Daniel Lurie is interviewing candidates to select a replacement for Joel Engardio as District 4 Supervisor. At the same time, Supervisors Chan and Walton are threatening to put Sunset Dunes on the ballot again next year.

Proposition K last year passed citywide with 55% of the vote, and Sunset Dunes is already one of San Francisco’s most popular parks. A ballot measure about Sunset Dunes would both risk the future of a beloved park–and put at risk the region’s commitment to funding public transit.

With two transit funding measures on the ballot next year, we’re going to need all hands on deck focused on ensuring public transit can not just survive, but thrive in the Bay Area.

Join us, along with our friends at Friends of Sunset Dunes, in asking Mayor Lurie to commit to appointing a District 4 supervisor who will not sign on to a measure that sends Sunset Dunes back to the voters next year.

We can't afford to go backwards and turn a popular park back into a highway—and we can't afford to risk next year's transit funding measures with a divisive ballot measure that distracts attention.
