Save the Downtown Troy BID

Downtown Troy is at a turning point.

For more than a decade, the Downtown Troy BID has been at the center of what makes this city feel alive, Riverfest, Troy Night Out, Pride Night Out, Rockin’ on the River, Yoga in the Park, Pig Out, Shop Small Shop Troy, and Chowderfest, the moments that fill our streets and bring people together. It’s the flower-filled sidewalks all summer, the glow of holiday lights in winter, clean streets before the city wakes up, the kind of daily care most people don’t even realize is happening, but immediately feel when it’s gone. It’s the marketing that keeps small businesses visible, the foot traffic that keeps doors open, the reason people choose Troy over anywhere else.

This is more than activities, it’s our identity, our energy, our economic heartbeat.

What’s at Risk

The BID’s funding has not changed since 2008, while every other major downtown in the Capital Region has modernized how their BID operates so they can actually meet today’s needs.

If Troy does not approve this adjustment in the 2026 budget:

  • No one will be promoting Troy’s businesses.

  • There will be no staff left to support downtown at all.

  • The BID will be reduced to watering plants and picking up trash, and nothing more.

This Is Not “Business as Usual”

This increase is not just to “keep things going”, it is an ask to provide the right level of services. To actually expand business support, enhance marketing, and deliver beautification that matches the growth and expectation of this district.

This is about protecting the identity, economy, and soul of our city.
