Defend the Rights of Ohio Immigrants! Urge Lawmakers to Say NO to HB1 & SB88

TO ALL OHIO RESIDENTS: HELP DEFEND THE RIGHTS OF IMMIGRANTS IN OHIO! TELL OHIO LAWMAKERS TO REJECT HB1 & SB88. NEW BILLS AIM TO STRIP IMMIGRANTS OF THE RIGHT TO OWN A HOME OR BUSINESS BASED ON THEIR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN.

Ohio lawmakers have introduced House Bill 1 (HB1) and Senate Bill 88 (SB88) – two bills that could have devastating consequences for immigrant communities. These proposals would ban individuals from purchasing property within 25 miles of “critical infrastructure” if they come from a country that is currently designated as a “foreign adversary." Currently, this list includes China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and Venezuela — and it may be updated at any time.

What HB1 & SB88 Will Do:

  • Because “critical infrastructure” ranges from railroads and telephone poles to water treatment facilities, these bills would essentially restrict property ownership across the entire state.
  • While U.S. citizens are exempt, thousands of legal immigrants – including permanent residents, visa holders, and individuals with protected status – would be barred from purchasing homes and businesses, with no evidence of wrongdoing.
  • SB88 goes even further, requiring affected immigrants to sell property they already legally own within two years.

HB1 and SB88 would strip legal immigrants of the right to own a home or business by equating individuals with foreign governments and legalizing discrimination based solely on national origin.

Thousands have already signed a petition telling lawmakers their opposition to HB1. We need to keep up the momentum and write to our legislators to urge them to reject HB1 and SB88!

Take Action Now:

HB1 and SB88 are currently under review by the Ohio House Public Safety Committee and Ohio Senate General Government Committee.

We need your help to urge Ohio lawmakers to say no to HB1 and SB88 now before they become law! Send an email to legislators by filling out your information and click "START WRITING".
