House Bill 616 is the THIRD censorship bill imported into Ohio that bans and censors education and discussion about history, current events, race, sexuality, gender identity, discrimination, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This shameful bill labels the lives and experiences of marginalized communities as "divisive and inherently racist concepts" and bans meaningful education and discussion about LGBTQ+ identities and experiences.

House Bill 616, and others like it, is a nationally coordinated effort to use misinformation and fear to create division among families and distrust of educators. These bills are a political instrument to perpetuate hate, racism, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, and xenophobia.

Ohioans want our students to receive an honest, accurate, thorough education that affirms and celebrates all identities and cultures. We DO NOT WANT elected officials peddling hateful censorship bills that whitewash history, sanitize hate, racism, and discrimination, and push LGBTQ+ students and educators back into the closet.
