SAY NO TO TWIN TOWERS ON CHEVRON ISLAND
Development Application MCU/2022/541 17 Illawong Street, Chevron Island 4217
Attention Chevron Island residents! A proposed high-rise development at 17 Illawong Street, Chevron Island, poses a significant threat to our community.
The development, comprising two towers of 36 and 31 storeys with 277 units in total, has the potential to negatively impact us in many ways, including traffic and parking congestion, privacy and amenity of local residents, environmental and wildlife degradation, loss of community character and visual appeal.
Currently, traffic and parking are already major issues and this development, along with several others in progress, will only worsen the situation. The size and density of the towers are out of character with the area and will strain local roads, particularly Thomas Drive, with insufficient parking for residents and visitors. The environment and wildlife of the area will suffer as groundwater and nearby river and canals will be impacted.
Furthermore, the proposed development does not address the shortage of affordable housing on the Gold Coast and is aimed at the high-end market. The maximum building height on Chevron Island should be 10 storeys, with adequate setbacks to ensure privacy, breeze, and sunlight to neighbouring properties. However, the proposed development exceeds this limit, with towers placed too close, creating a wind tunnel and unpleasant street conditions.
We urge you to take action by lodging an objection submission to Council to refuse this application and protect our community’s character, amenity, and lifestyle. We have made objecting quick and easy. A copy of your objection will go to local Division 10 Councillor Darren Taylor; the Mayor and all other Councillors.
Every voice counts, and together we can make a difference in preserving the unique identity of Chevron Island.
Let’s unite to ensure a sustainable future for our community by saying NO to this development in its current form and other similar overdevelopments. Every voice counts, and together we can make a difference in preserving the unique identity of Chevron Island.
Submit an objection to council before May 2023.
