Say Yes to Senior Housing in Kirkwood

Kirkwood Sign

What’s Happening: Turner Monumental AME Church is proposing a 47-unit permanent supportive housing development at Hallman & Howard Streets. It would provide safe, stable homes for seniors 62+ living on low incomes (50% of Area Median Income) - helping longtime neighbors age in place as housing costs rise, with a focus on those that have experienced homelessness. Atlanta Civic Circle reported on the NPU O meeting where, despite the best efforts of dozens of supporters, the project was denied the support for a rezoning to make this project a reality.

What’s Next: The rezoning application will move on to the Zoning Review Board and then City Council who holds the ultimate decision. If the project can be rezoned, they'll be able to seek the grant funding necessary to make deeply affordable housing happen.

How You Can Help:

  • Contact City Council to let them know you support this project

    • Supporters are meeting at the Kirkwood UCC (100 Rogers St SE) on Sunday February 1st from 12-2 to write letters and rally support. Kids welcome!
