Tell Our State Senators to Vote YES on SB 783 to End Our Law Enforcement Acting as ICE Agents

Police ICE

Local and State Law Enforcement Acting as ICE Agents Must End.

STOP YOUR TAX DOLLARS FROM SUPPORTING AND AIDING ICE ABUSES.

Assigning the duties of federal immigration agents to local and state law enforcement officers breaks the trust between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. When people fear that calling the police could lead to ICE abuses and detention, they stop reporting crimes and cooperating as witnesses.

When local police enforce immigration laws instead of focusing on serious crime, police resources are diverted away from protecting and serving their community.

In Virginia, nearly 70% of people arrested by ICE have NO criminal record. Of those with convictions, only about 1% are listed as convicted of a serious, but not always violent, crime.

The passage of SB783 will prevent local law enforcement offices from being authorized to perform the duties of federal immigration agents.
