Send a Letter: It’s Time to Let RI Vote for Same-Day Voter Registration

We're calling on Rhode Island lawmakers to pass legislation putting a pro-voter constitutional amendment on the ballot in November 2026. Please send your letter today urging your elected officials to pass the Let RI Vote for Same Day Registration resolution, H-5515/S-820!

Thousands of Rhode Island voters are denied the chance to vote for state and local office every election because their registration is not up-to-date by the deadline. Rhode Island's 30-day voter registration deadline disproportionately affects nonwhite, youth, and low-income voters and populations who are more geographically mobile.

There's a clear solution to ensure equitable access to the ballot box for all Rhode Island voters: eliminate the arbitrary and restrictive voter registration deadline.

Twenty-two states and the District of Columbia have same-day voter registration, including four of the six New England states. Rhode Island has had same-day registration for Presidential and Vice Presidential elections for decades. Same-day voter registration is neither new nor novel - it is proven to boost voter turnout by 3-7% and drastically reduce the number of provisional ballots cast.

The people who run our elections - the Secretary of State, the Board of Elections, and the RI Town and City Clerks' Association - support this legislation. That's why the General Assembly must pass H-5515 and S-820, giving RI voters an opportunity to remove the 30-day voter registration deadline from the state constitution and pave the way for same-day registration.

With voting rights under attack across the country, Rhode Island must remedy this antiquated oversight and prioritize voting access now.

Take action today to ensure lawmakers and the General Assembly's leaders know this is a priority! Send your letter to advance voting rights in Rhode Island »
