EMC Don't Wait, Ban the Eight
Democracy Green

Dear Concerned North Carolina Residents and Supporters,

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality has discovered 8 specific PFAS chemicals that are contaminating our surface water and groundwater sources. Recent studies have shown that these chemicals have built up in the bodies of North Carolina residents and in our fish due to the contaminated water.

The NC DEQ has requested the NC Environmental Management Commission to implement a ban on these 8 PFAS chemicals to provide relief and resources for clean-up efforts and to limit the production of these harmful substances. Unfortunately, in July, the Environmental Management Commission denied this request, delaying relief for all North Carolina residents.

Now, the NC DEQ is working to protect the people by advocating for the ban of these 8 PFAS chemicals. To safeguard the public, the NC DEQ has implemented a temporary ban using federal rules from the US EPA as an emergency measure to protect lives.

This petition is in support of this decision and calls for the permanent ban of all 8 PFAS chemicals to move North Carolina in a positive direction. We encourage you to share your support or personal experience with PFAS contamination so that the NC DEQ can use your words to advocate for clean water to the NC EMC.

Let's work together to ensure clean water for all of us!
