Sign and send letters to your members of Congress: Please fight against any cuts to Medicaid and food stamps. Paying for tax cuts by cutting health insurance and food assistance to low income Americans is just plain wrong.
Republicans in Congress are in the process of writing a budget reconciliation bill that aims to extend and expand the 2017 Trump tax cuts, increase defense spending and ramp up immigration enforcement.
In order to pay for this expensive agenda, Republicans are debating making significant cuts to Medicaid (up to $880 billion in cuts over 10 years, or roughly 10% of the program) and also making cuts to food stamps (up to $230 billion in cuts over 10 years, or roughly 20% of the program). They briefly flirted with, but now seem to have ruled out, raising taxes on high income earners.
Republicans are aiming to release drafts of the portions of the bill that would cut Medicaid and food stamps during the second week of May, and to pass the entire bill by the end of May. Given both this tight timeline, and that there is a lot of internal disagreement among Republicans about whether or not they should go through with these potential cuts to food stamps and Medicaid, now is the time to contact your members of Congress and urge them to oppose any and all cuts to Medicaid and food stamps.
Please, sign and send a short, pre-written, polite letter to your members of the House and Senate, urging them to fight against any and all cuts to Medicaid and food stamps. Paying for tax cuts by cutting health insurance and food assistance to low income Americans is just plain wrong.
Notes: You will have to choose a topic in order to send your letters. Since topic lists are maintained by every individual member of Congress, they are all different from one another. As such, I do not know what topics you will be required to choose from. Since it is unlikely that "Medicaid," "food stamps," or "Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program" will be topics, just do the best you can to choose something similar.
Completing this form will not result in receiving emails from any organization other than Bowers News Media. Additionally, everyone who completes the form will be redirected to an Act Blue page for Bowers News Media PAC. However, no donation is required for your letters to be sent. In fact, if you see that Act Blue form, it means that your letters have already been sent.
