Sign and send letters to your U.S. senators: Please reassert congressional authority over tariffs
With his extreme and capricious tariffs, Donald Trump is abusing presidential authority, creating economic chaos and damaging our international alliances. Further, in response to criticism of his actions, he is telling Americans they are just going to have to deal with the pain and live with less.
While many U.S. senators, including many Republicans, are speaking out against Trump's reckless actions and comments, what we really need from our senators right now is action to reassert congressional authority over tariffs.
Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) are doing just that, by introducing the Trade Review Act of 2025. This act would "require the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of such an imposition and for Congress to explicitly approve any new tariffs within 60 days. The bill also would allow Congress to end any tariff at any time."
As of May 7, 2025, the Trade Review Act of 2025 has 13 co-sponsors, including seven Democrats and six Republicans. In order to become law, it will eventually need the support of 67 U.S. senators, since Donald Trump would obviously veto it. You can use this form to send a short, pre-written, polite letter to any of your U.S. senators who have not yet become co-sponsors, urging them take real action to reassert congressional authority over tariffs.
Please, sign and send a short, pre-written, polite letter to your U.S. senators, urging them to become co-sponsors of the Cantwell-Grassley Trade Review Act of 2025.
(Notes: You will have to pick a topic in order to send your letters. However, topic lists are maintained by every individual congressional office, and thus I do not know what topics you will have to choose from. Just choose the closest option available to you.
After you send your letter, you will be redirected to an ActBlue page requesting a donation to Bowers News Media PAC. However, no donation is required for your letters to be sent.
You can edit the sample letter I have provided, or just send it as is.
