In 2023, Dr. Ge earned his Masters of Public Health degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences at Harvard University. He is a beloved member of our Harvard Community, and we stand behind him. Dear University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine,

As members of the Harvard University community, we write to you in full support of Dr. Yipeng Ge. We demand that you reinstate Dr. Ge to his residency program, and launch an immediate inquiry for bias and intimidation within the faculty.

We believe strongly in our values of care and dignity for all, no matter who people are or where they come from - whether that be Boston or Palestine. That means that we refuse to be complicit with the small but vocal few that attempt to distract us from their disinformation and hypocrisy by targeting Dr. Ge and other medical professionals. The age-old tactics and colonial playbook of fear mongering, intimidation tactics, and divide and conquer strategy will not make us forget that over 20,000 Palestinians have been killed, 40,000 are missing, and millions have been displaced with no food, water, and electricity. As Doctors Without Borders, the United Nations, and the World Health Organization are reporting on the destruction of health systems in Gaza, it is horrific that doctors across the world are being punished for following through on their vows to do no harm.

In 2023, Dr. Ge earned his Masters of Public Health degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences. Here, at the best globally ranked program of its kind, Dr. Ge studied how to understand and intervene on the social determinants of health and promote health equity. As someone who was incredibly involved during his time at Harvard, Dr. Ge is well known in our community as a kind, caring, dedicated, passionate, determined, and inquisitive individual who continuously sought out avenues of learning for personal and intellectual growth.

As peers of Dr. Ge, we celebrate and commend his bravery. The field of medicine and those who practice it should be shaped by the drive to ensure quality access to care for all. It should not be shaped by the oppressive and discriminatory practices of people wielding their institutional power to circumvent human dignity.

We know that by coming together, we can create a world where medical care is accessible, and people have human affirming resources. Dr. Yipeng Ge is one of the people leading the way. He must be reinstated immediately.
