Trump has long claimed elections are rigged if he loses, and in May said he would do "anything necessary" to make sure the U.S. has "honest" elections — meaning elections where he wins. And we all saw his attempt to overturn his 2020 election loss with the January 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Not to mention MAGA Mike Johnson and his MAGA minions' months-long delay in seating climate hawk Rep Adelita Grijalva in a failed attempt to prevent a vote to release the Epstein files.
Which is why experts and election watchers have been warning about the chance that Republicans in Congress, under pressure from Trump, could seek to block some or all duly elected House members from being seated on Jan. 3, 2027, effectively preventing Democrats from taking power.
Fortunately, a bipartisan group of U.S. House members are calling on their colleagues to pledge that they'll accept this fall's election results and oppose any effort to block the seating of fellow members next year. But so far, most members of Congress haven't been willing to commit to respecting the voters and the outcome of the election. Use this page to send a letter to your member of Congress asking them to sign on the letter cosponsored by Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Don Bacon (R-NE).
