Sign the climate bill Governor Baker
Join us, Mass Power Forward, in calling on Governor Baker to rapidly follow the lead of the legislature and sign our climate bill as passed! This bill will move us further towards the 100% renewable clean energy we need AND removes woody biomass from the RPS and clarifies that wood-burning power plants do not count as renewable energy in Massachusetts.
As you know, the Baker Administration is poised to weaken the state’s renewable energy standards for wood-burning power plants later this summer. DOER’s rule changes would direct millions of ratepayer dollars to woody biomass power plants across the Northeast that are more polluting than coal. If enacted, these provisions in the climate bill will preempt Baker’s regressive biomass rules from going into effect.
This represents a huge victory for residents and communities across Massachusetts who have been working at the grassroots level to remove polluting biomass from our clean energy programs since 2008!
In addition, this bill includes these parts of getting to 100% renewable clean energy
- All new car sales must be EVs by 2035
- A commitment to electrify MBTA buses, and assistance for RTA bus electrification
- Making it easier for solar projects to qualify for net metering, and other policies to promote the integration of more solar, wind, and energy storage into the electric grid
- Important steps forward for wind energy and good jobs
