Stand in solidarity with the UO Gaza Hunger Strike!
A broad coalition of University of Oregon community members (including students, faculty, and staff members) began an ongoing, rolling hunger strike in solidarity with starving Palestinians in Gaza on Monday, May 19 at 9am. The students, faculty, and staff participating in the UO Gaza Hunger Strike have one primary goal: that all who bear witness to the hunger strike also bear witness to the humanity of Palestinians who are being starved to death en masse in Gaza, and take every action possible to stop this crime against our shared humanity.
The hunger strikers are demanding elected officials in Oregon fight for the end of Israel’s siege on Gaza so that food, humanitarian aid, and medical supplies can flow unobstructed to starving Palestinians; and to end US funding for weapons of genocide. They are also calling upon the UO to divest from companies complicit in genocide and mass starvation, to fulfill prior commitments to scholarships for Palestinian students, to uphold sanctuary campus protections, and to cease the repression of speech, protest, and academic inquiry related to Palestine on campus.
For daily updates from the hunger strikers, follow @UOGazaHungerStrike on Instagram and TikTok. Hunger strikers will continue to hold weekday events around lunch-time on the UO campus and around the city throughout the duration of the hunger strike in order to engage and educate the local community and fundraise for starving Gazans.
