Stand Up for Workers & Vendors: Override the Veto and Pass Equal Protections

Delivery workers and street vendors are the lifeblood of New York City. They keep our city running — delivering meals, groceries, and essentials, and bringing affordable food and goods to our neighborhoods. Yet too many of them face low pay, unsafe conditions, and even criminal charges just for trying to earn a living.

That’s why the City Council passed:

  • Intro 1133: Guarantees delivery workers basic protections, including restroom access, fire safety materials, insulated bags, and fair pay standards.

  • Intro 1135: Extends the city’s minimum pay rule to grocery delivery workers, closing a loophole that excluded thousands of immigrant workers.

  • Intro 47: Removes misdemeanor criminal penalties for general vendors and mobile food vendors. Instead of arrests, violations would result in civil fines — protecting immigrant and low-wage vendors from unnecessary criminalization.

Mayor Adams vetoed these bills. On September 10th, the City Council will vote on whether to override his veto. Workers and vendors cannot afford to be left behind.
