Stand With Striking IKEA Workers
In Perry, Maryland, 300 IKEA workers with the Machinist union who supply furniture to stores across the country are on strike.
Despite making $2 billion in profits this year, many IKEA workers are living paycheck-to-paycheck. Meanwhile management calls them "family" while corporate headquarters is trying to remove key protections for workers from the new contract.
Seniority rights that allow workers to choose their job function after three years of work is one of the critical policies at the center of negotiations. IKEA wants to eliminate this right so corporate can move workers with lower pay into jobs that displace long term employees like Garrett Hayes.
Garrett has worked at IKEA for 10 years. We spoke to Garrett and other striking workers on the ground to hear their stories.
