Congress is debating a renewal of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Under current law, FISA Section 702 creates a massive loophole that gives the federal government the power to spy on Americans without a warrant by using "backdoor" searches and buying consumer data.

Before, this kind of spying was impossible because the government simply didn't have enough officers to spy on all of us. But thanks to contracts with companies like OpenAI, xAI and Palantir, the federal government could create a chatbot to watch on everything you do—your texts, your calls, where you go, what you buy, what you post on social media...and flag "suspicious" behavior, all without a warrant.
