The Austin City Council is poised to vote on increasing Austin Energy rates by another 5% . Given that Gov. Abbott is threatening municipal electric utilities, including Austin Energy, in the name of reducing rates, and there has been no process to evaluate if this rate increase (and the 5% per year rate increases Austin Energy is requesting for the next four years) is justified.

It’s time for a full review of Austin Energy costs and rates, with the participation of a dedicated consumer advocate to protect residential and small commercial customers.

Email Mayor Watson and the Austin City Council to ask that they reject any Austin Energy rate increases and direct the utility to initiate a full rate case for next year.
