Stop Cubs Parking Lot Expansion

The Cubs proposed a plan to expand the Camry Lot from 579 to 947 spots in the hopes of alleviating gameday traffic.

However, it is a well-studied phenomenon that more parking incentivizes more driving, worsens congestion, and creates more safety risks for pedestrians and cyclists. An expanded parking lot and more congestion undermine the pedestrian-friendly experience that Wrigleyville offers.

At a time when more and more Lakeview residents are struggling to find affordable housing, the Cubs would rather build a surface parking lot to serve out-of-state drivers instead of investing in the community that gives them their unique world famous stadium.

Their property could do so much more for our neighborhood, including providing more housing for our community (image below is one rendering of what's possible). Located near two Red Line stops and multiple bus routes, this is prime real estate for much needed dense housing in a walkable, bikeable neighborhood where 40% of households don’t own a car.

The Chicago City Council has the power to reject this plan. Our letter campaign urges your alderperson and the Cubs to create a more forward-looking plan that benefits the neighborhood and its residents.
