On November 4th the City of Peterborough shared the proposed budget for 2025. This budget includes a 25% budget cut to social services and the arts in order to increase the Police budget by an additional 3.5 million, for a total budget of 44 million for the year. Many of the programs and organizations that would loose funding are doing life-saving work that serves our cities most vulnerable populations. Some of the affected organizations include: Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre, Trinity Drop-in program, Kawartha Food Share, the New Canadians Centre, and over 75 other non-profits.

The Mayor and Council plans to adopt the budget on December 9th. We cannot let this proposed budget pass. We can take action by emailing the Mayor and Councillors to stop the funding cuts, the more of us who email, the more likely we are to change their minds.

We demand the City of Peterborough maintain the current social services and arts funding and that the $3.5M increase to the Police budget be redirected to social services, arts and culture, and housing and homelessness. Send an email now to make your voice heard!
