Stop Data Centers in Fort Worth Neighborhoods
Stop the Black Mountain Data Center
Black Mountain, a massive data center is being proposed for Fort Worth that will also have drastic impacts on Forest Hill, Everman, and Arlington. This project would dramatically industrialize the area and put a heavy burden on local resources and community.
General Impacts
General Impacts
● Huge land use: The data center is projected to be 450+ acres, equivalent to more than 340 football fields. Once built, this area would be locked into industry.
● Massive water use: Data centers like Black Mountain require huge amounts of water like millions of gallons per day, similar to the water needs of a small town.
● High electricity demand: Powering and cooling thousands of servers 24/7 could require over 100 megawatts of electricity, roughly enough to supply tens of thousands of homes with power.
● 24/7 industrial operation: Cooling systems, backup generators, ventilation, and lighting would run nonstop, creating constant noise and light pollution.
Black Mountain will be an industrial nightmare, operating around the clock, consuming massive resources, and generating continuous noise and light pollution that completely disfigures the area.
Community Impacts
The Black Mountain site is being proposed to add more industry to Southeast Fort Worth, an area already carrying a HEAVY industrial burden.
Some of the key issues include:
Some of the key issues include:
● Black Mountain will be sited in a community already plagued by industry, including a landfill, warehouses, factories, truck yards, and Oncor substations
● Black Mountain will bring additional trucks and utility vehicles which will increase congestion, wear on local roads, and pollution from big trucks and traffic
● Black Mountain is being proposed to be near Lake Arlington, a critical water supply
● It will also interfere with Weston Gardens, a historic gem and one of the only community green spaces in the area
● Black Mountain will also affect communities across multiple cities, as it will sit on the intersection of Fort Worth, Forest Hill, and Everman.
Adding one of the largest data centers in Texas here would further industrialize an already overburdened community, threaten sensitive environmental and historic resources, and place significant strain on infrastructure and quality of life across multiple cities.
