Stop DOE's Multi-Million-Dollar Giveaway to a MAGA-Linked Coal Company
The Trump administration is trying to drag America backward—and taxpayers could be forced to pay for it.
According to recent reporting, the Department of Energy is considering giving millions of dollars to a company seeking to build what could become the nation's first new coal-fired power plant since 2013. Even more alarming, the company is partially led by a far-right political activist and telecom executive.
At a moment when climate-fueled disasters are costing Americans billions, clean energy is booming, and communities are demanding solutions to the climate crisis, the administration wants to spend public money reviving one of the dirtiest energy sources ever invented.
Coal doesn't belong in America's future. Coal plants pump massive amounts of climate pollution into the atmosphere while releasing dangerous pollutants linked to asthma, heart disease, and other health problems. Yet instead of investing in the clean energy technologies that are creating jobs and lowering costs across the country, the Department of Energy is preparing to bankroll a new generation of coal infrastructure.
And this isn't happening by accident. The Trump administration has made no secret of its efforts to prop up the coal industry, even as renewable energy continues to outperform coal economically and environmentally.
Taxpayer dollars should not be used to reward politically connected insiders. They should not be used to lock Americans into decades of additional climate pollution. And they certainly should not be used to build the first new coal plant in more than a decade.
Secretary Wright still has a choice.
He can reject this reckless proposal and invest in the clean energy solutions that will actually strengthen our economy, protect public health, and confront the climate crisis.
Send your message now and tell the Department of Energy: No taxpayer-funded coal boondoggles. Stop this coal plant before it gets off the ground.
