Senate Bill 2188 would shift the power to close public beaches - like Boca Chica - from county officials to certain cities. SpaceX just won a local vote to create “Starbase,” a brand-new city made up of its workers and their families. If SB 2188 passes, this company town will gain authority to close Boca Chica Beach with zero meaningful oversight and virtually no limits on what it can do.

Senate Bill 2230 would criminalize being on a closed beach. People could be sentenced for up to 180 days (half a year!) in jail and fined up to $4,000, even if they didn’t know the beach was closed.

Email the Texas House Committee on Calendars to urge them not to set these bad bills for a vote.
