STOP FEDEX FROM POLLUTING ECHO HEIGHTS!

The Echo Heights Neighborhood Association, Echo Heights Stop Six Environmental Coalition, and Fort Worth Environmental Coalition of Communities are advocating the City of Fort Worth to deny the Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for FedEx. For too long, our community has borne an disproportionate burden of environmental contamination and its devastating health consequences. Allowing FedEx to continue and expand its operations in Echo Heights would only exacerbate an already critical situation.

We need your help getting the City Council to deny this Conditional Use Permit.

Echo Heights is a vibrant community, yet our residents face reduced life expectancies and alarmingly high rates of cancer and asthma. This tragic reality is not accidental; it is a direct result of the City of Fort Worth's policies that have permitted polluting industries, including trucking. This pattern, where Black and Brown neighborhoods are systematically burdened with environmental pollution, is unfortunately replicated across the nation.

A major contributor to the environmental crisis in Echo Heights is FedEx. Their existing operations, housing hundreds of trucks in two massive parking lots, are a constant source of harmful emissions and other detrimental impacts. While we understand that warehouses can bring jobs and economic opportunities, the specific nature of FedEx's operations in our community is directly linked to severe health issues. As studies demonstrate, semi-trucks release over 40 cancer-causing chemicals, leading to asthma, various cancers, and adverse birth outcomes such as premature birth and low birth weight. Furthermore, the constant presence of these heavy vehicles leads to the release of millions of microplastic particles from tire breakdown, which the Echo Heights community is then forced to breathe in.

Beyond the immediate health risks, FedEx's operations pose significant safety concerns for our community. Truck drivers frequently ignore signage designed to prevent them from entering residential areas, driving through prohibited zones daily. This reckless behavior narrowly avoids residents and children walking to school, creating an environment of constant fear and danger. Moreover, the heavy truck traffic relentlessly tears up our roads, creating potholes and damaging infrastructure, causing problems for all other drivers.

We are asking community to join us in 3 actions!

  1. Send this letter to the City Council by filling out the required information.
  2. Join us on for the protest on June 10th at 5:00pm at the New Fort Worth City Council (100 Fort Worth Trail).
  3. Sign up to speak at the Fort Worth City Council to demand they deny the Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for FedEx.

Please consider signing our petition and sending a letter to the city council and city staff, including City Manager David Cooke urging them to act.

Thank you for joining us!
