In 2020, 18-year-old Deon Kay was shot and killed by MPD Officer Alex Alvarez.

Deon Kay’s family later filed a civil lawsuit against the officer and the District of Columbia. A DC jury found Officer Alex Alvarez responsible for Deon Kay’s death and a judge upheld that verdict.

Now the DC Attorney General’s office is continuing to appeal the decision, forcing Deon Kay’s family to relive the experience while DC taxpayers continue paying the growing cost of the appeal.

This action calls on Attorney General Brian Schwalb, Christopher Pantel, and Charles Coughlin to withdraw the appeal and respect the verdict.
