Stop the 101/92 Director Connector Highway Widening in San Mateo and Foster City

More lanes, more cars, more traffic
San Mateo Daily Journal

We need your help in fighting another poorly conceived highway widening project in San Mateo County - the 101/92 Direct Connector in San Mateo/Foster City. This project is expensive, unpopular, and bad for the environment; it will also increase traffic on highways and local roads in San Mateo County.

Caltrans, SMCTA, and C/CAG have proposed construction of new Express Lanes connecting 92 and US 101. The project is expected to cost over $200 million. Please tell our elected leaders know that you oppose this project for a variety of reasons:

- Bad for neighborhoods, as the project may require eminent domain of residents' property

- Bad for taxpayers, especially when we can't fund grade separations or street safety projects near schools; meanwhile, Caltrain and BART are in financial peril

- Bad for the environment, as it will increase auto traffic, increasing GHG emissions and air pollution in equity priority neighborhoods adjacent to the highway

- Bad for traffic, as more East Bay commuters drive to jobs on the Peninsula instead of taking transit; when crashes occur on the highway, this incremental traffic will clog local streets

- Bad for our safety and quality of life, as more non-locals will drive on our local roads, increasing congestion and traffic violence for those who walk and bike.

Thanks for taking action and emailing our elected officials through this form.
