Stop the Florence Landfill Expansion in East Gainesville Neighborhood

Together we stopped this landfill expansion two years ago... But it's back.

Join us in Demanding a Public Hearing the Florence Landfill Expansion, again!

Taking this action will add your name to an Administrative Petition calling for a public hearing on expanding a landfill site in East Gainesville. The FL Department of Environmental Protection plans to approve the permit for this landfill.

**This is not just an online petition. This will add you to the public record as a person requesting public oversight of a state permit. You should receive mail from FDEP in response to this.**

You will also be telling the City and County to join residents in demanding this public hearing.

Gainesville-Area Action for Environmental Justice is contesting this landfill expansion, alongside local residents, organizations and businesses, because its too close to Boulware Springs (which runs into Paynes Prairie), as well as immediately adjacent neighborhood including homes, churches, schools, playgrounds and farms that has provided fresh food to hundreds of local families.

This landfill should have been closed and capped years ago, as permitting implied would happen. Instead its planned to double in height in an area that has historically been a dumping ground for wealthier, whiter businesses and residents.
