Stop the Monstrous Healthcare Hikes!
Beginning January 1, 2025, the University of California plans to dramatically increase healthcare costs by 9-11% for UC workers across the state. The UC also plans copay increases of up to 50% on critical, everyday services like office visits and pharmacy orders, and will institute monthly premiums on CORE, the only UC health plan that didn’t require premium payments!
Sign your name to help us show the UC that they can’t keep passing on massive healthcare costs to hard-working employees. These hikes represent a huge burden to the hundreds of thousands of employees who keep the UC running, and the UC Union Coalition is fighting back!
There are several critical issues with these rate increases:
- Too high: These increases far exceed annual inflation and follow massive, unprecedented premium hikes in 2024, where one health plan saw premium increases of almost 200%.
- Unnecessary: The UC is one of the wealthiest university systems in the country, bringing in billions of dollars every year. It pays its health center directors as much as $2 million per year, while many UC workers struggle to get by in an increasingly expensive state.
- Unethical: UC is increasing rates by more than it needs right now in order to avoid State rate caps that will go into effect next year.
- Lack of transparency: UC’s healthcare premiums are negotiated and set in secret with no direct input or participation by the employees most impacted by these decisions. When UC negotiates UC Health premiums, it is negotiating with itself, and there is no consumer protection.
The UC raised employee premiums dramatically in 2024 and in 2025 they’re proposing to do it again. Workers can’t take two years of healthcare price gouging. Add your name to help us fight back against the UC’s healthcare hike and protect workers’ hard-earned wages!
