Stop The Sale of America's Wild Horses to Slaughter
🚨🐎 AMERICA’S FEDERALLY PROTECTED WILD HORSES ARE BEING ROUNDED UP, REMOVED FROM OUR PUBLIC LANDS, AND SOME GOVERNMENT-SOLD HORSES ARE ENDING UP IN THE SLAUGHTER PIPELINE.
BLM sales of wild horses and burros surged from 1,509 animals in FY2024 to 3,718 in FY2025, an increase of approximately 146%.
Under the Bureau of Land Management’s Sale Authority program, federally managed wild horses and burros can be transferred into private ownership. Once sold, they lose the protections associated with their status as federally managed wild horses. Investigations have traced government-sold mustangs into the slaughter pipeline.
That pathway must end.
Wild horses and burros should never be sold to kill buyers, slaughter exporters, slaughter auctions, or others who funnel these animals toward slaughter.
These animals are routinely blamed for competition over forage, water, and rangeland health while millions of acres of our public lands are simultaneously used for livestock grazing and other interests.
America can manage wild horses humanely without allowing federally managed animals to move from public lands into private sale and ultimately to slaughter.
🚨 SEND A LETTER NOW demanding that the Department of the Interior and BLM immediately stop sales that send or funnel federally managed wild horses and burros into the slaughter pipeline and strengthen protections to ensure these animals are never sold for slaughter.
PUBLIC LAND → SALE → SLAUGHTER MUST END.
🐎 America’s wild horses are not disposable commodities.
