Stop the U.S. and Israeli militaries from being further enmeshed
The provision in the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to further enmesh the U.S. and Israeli war machines is now being pushed in the Senate, paving the way for collaboration and shared data between the U.S. and Israel militaries in new, dangerous, and unprecedented ways. The proposition, Section 1217 in the Senate bill, reduces transparency in U.S. support of Israel's military, designates an executive agent to synchronize military and tech efforts between the two countries, and advances the violent collaboration beyond what's been status quo. In July, both the House and Senate Armed Services Committees voted to approve the bill, despite data showing that 60 percent of Americans oppose further military funding to Israel, and 60 percent of Americans oppose the U.S.-Israel war in Iran. In other words, lawmakers across the country are failing to represent their constituents while pushing further integration of the two militaries to disastrous ends.
As Mennonites and people of faith, this goes against everything we believe about God's design for peace and human flourishing. At this critical moment, we must step into our faith together and make our voices heard.
The Senate is now trying to force cloture, which means the NDAA will move quickly without debate. But Senators Van Hollen, Sanders, Merkley, Welch, Markey, and Warren are working to oppose moving forward until there's been proper debate. We all must work together to pressure our Senators to:
Support the efforts of Senators Van Hollen, Sanders, Merkley, Welch, Markey, and Warren to oppose cloture on the Senate NDAA, to allow debate on further military integration with Israel.
Oppose and remove Section 1217 of the NDAA and Section 619 of the Intelligence Authorization Act.
Please take a moment today to write to your Senator and demand the U.S.-Israel military industrial complex is not expanded further.
