Tell the Senate: Reject Brian Johnson and Protect the CFPB From Vought 2.0

For 15 years, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has stood up for people cheated by financial corporations. The CFPB has secured more than $21 billion in relief and put protections in place against junk fees, predatory lending, medical debt abuse, discrimination, and financial scams.

With the Trump administration, that legacy is under threat. Every. Single. Day.

Russell Vought spent 18 months trying to dismantle the CFPB. When he couldn’t shut it down, his CFPB dropped cases and closed investigations against financial companies. Now Trump has nominated Brian Johnson to take over the agency, and Vought has endorsed him.

Johnson has worked at Capital One since 2024. In 2025, the CFPB dropped a $2 billion case against the company. Senator Elizabeth Warren has demanded answers about what role, if any, Johnson played in that decision. Senators must also ask whether someone with deep ties to the financial industry will stand up to the companies the CFPB is supposed to police.

Johnson will be Vought 2.0.

The Senate must reject Brian Johnson and demand a director committed to rebuilding the CFPB, protecting people, enforcing civil rights laws, and holding powerful financial corporations accountable. Senators must vote NO on cloture and NO on confirmation.
