Target, Stop Wage Theft in Guatemala

In November 2020, workers at JNB Global making Target clothes were told they needed to sign new contracts that illegally falsified their hire dates in order to deny them benefits. Workers who did not sign were told “If you do not sign [a new contract], we will fire you…If you don’t sign, be prepared for the consequences…I will do everything possible to make sure that you do not receive payment of severance.” All workers who refused to sign were fired in spring 2021. These workers are still owed $58,000 in unpaid wages and severance. Workers who signed returned to work with their seniority set to zero, costing them years of earned benefits.

Target must ensure that the fired workers are fully paid severance, and that all workers who were coerced into signing illegal documents are reissued correct contracts and receive all benefits they’re owed.
