Strengthen the TRUST Act, Now!

The TRUST Act is one of the strongest protections Connecticut has for immigrant families against mass deportations. In 2025, we must strengthen the TRUST Act to enhance accountability measures so local resources are not used to separate families. Please ask your state legislators to fight back against mass deportations right here in Connecticut! The TRUST Act has passed through the house, but key elements of the bill were changed. Unfortunately, a group of conservative Democrats aligned with the Republican Party pressured the Democratic members as well as the leaders of the House of Representatives to include certain Class C and Class D felonies. The exceptions of the Trust Act only apply to people convicted of a Class A or Class B felony. The Group of conservative Democrats put our coalition against a wall, since the only way the amendment could be voted on was under the condition of adding the following crimes to the list of exemptions of the TRUST Act.

Connecticut has the power to act NOW. In 2013, Connecticut passed the nation’s first, “Transparency & Responsibility Using State Tools” (TRUST) Act. The TRUST Act limits the ability of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to use our state/local law enforcement to carry out their terror. Since then, loopholes in the TRUST Act have meant that any violations go unaddressed.
