Submit a Comment to DHS in Support of Non-Citizen Scholars
UE members are coming together to oppose the Trump administration’s proposed rule to limit the length of time that international students are allowed to stay in the United States, and impose restrictions on students seeking to change programs. As members of UE locals representing thousands of international graduate workers across the country, we unequivocally reject these xenophobic attacks on non-citizen students and workers.
This proposed change is part of the Trump administration’s ongoing attacks on the rights of non-citizen students and workers, which have included visa revocations, ICE detentions, and increased surveillance and social media screening of international students and workers. It is yet another example of the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to dismantle higher education and academic freedom. If passed, this new rule will be used to further surveil and deny the rights of non-citizens who exercise their rights to free speech and academic freedom to criticize US foreign policy or the Trump administration.
Now is the time to come together for the future of higher education and democracy. The Trump administration already proposed this rule once during Trump’s first term, but the proposed rule did not go into effect thanks to sustained public pressure from students and workers across the country.
Take a few minutes to submit public comment – let DHS know that we stand united in defense of the rights of non-citizen students and workers.
