With millions of parents stuck at home with their kids during the COVID-19 crisis, it’s become obvious that child care providers are essential to the very functioning of our economy. Yet in the coming months, thousands of child care facilities may be forced to close permanently, eliminating an estimated 4.5 million slots for children—over a third of the national total.
