Support FareStart’s 2023 Permanent Supportive Housing Meals Program
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, FareStart has provided more than 5.5 million meals to organizations that serve youth, adults and families who are low-income or experiencing homelessness.
Thanks to $4 million in state funds provided since 2021, and other local and philanthropic support, FareStart has delivered millions of meals to permanent supportive housing locations in King County run by the Downtown Emergency Services Center (DESC) and Plymouth Housing. These meals have helped people experiencing chronic homelessness access nutritious food, which supports food security, better health outcomes and an increased sense of well-being as they make a successful transition into permanent housing. These gains are at risk as federal pandemic food programs end and inflation rises causing potential food and nutrition gaps.
With the support of our champions Representative Julia Reed and Senator Noel Frame, FareStart has requested $2 million from the Washington State Legislature in 2023 to continue our King County permanent supportive housing meals program and to expand the successful effort in Spokane County in partnership with Catholic Charities Eastern Washington.
We need your help to ask legislators responsible for writing the state's budget this year to include this funding. Please fill out the form to the right to get started.
