The Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation and other Indigenous people in North Carolina have long been unrecognized. Join Climate Action NC to fight against this erasure of Indigenous communities and their history by sending a letter to your legislators supporting House Bill 600 and House Bill 765.

House Bill 600, "Clarify Occaneechi Band of Saponi Nation," and House Bill 765, "American Indian Heritage Commission," will take a step towards righting this. House Bill 600 will clarify the status of and officially recognize the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation. House Bill 765 will introduce a commission, fund it, and establish for it to be run by state recognized groups to promote their history and art.
