SF YIMBY is proud to support new homes at 801 Corbett Avenue that would build 8 much-needed new homes in beautiful the Twin Peaks neighborhood.
Some of this project’s many highlight include:
Storeroom Conversion & Improved Laundry Facility. The proposed project would make the storeroom accessible to all residents, converting it into a new laundry room, larger and with more machines than the existing one.
New and improved emergency egress route. The proposed project would enhance the building's safety by adding sprinklered areas to the base of the building and a new egress route and exit onto Dixie Alley. This new exit enables 7 of the existing units to upgrade from non-conforming to conforming egress status.
Encouraging Alternatives to Driving. Currently, 801 Corbett offers no place for secure bicycle parking outside the residents’ apartments. The project would add 10 Class-1 bicycle parking spaces in a secure, weather-protected facility intended for use as long-term, overnight, and work-day bicycle storage by the residents of 801 Corbett.
More Housing in a Resource Rich Neighborhood Housing in San Francisco continues to become more expensive and scarce. The greatest way to combat this is by adding more of it. Utilizing the ADU legislation, without the need for a conditional use or variance, this project proposes to add 8 apartments in place of parking and within the existing envelope. Adding units to the City’s depleted housing stock is greater than the preservation of parking spaces.
801 Corbett, the surrounding neighborhood and city would benefit as a result of this project. Just 5 parking spaces are currently being used and 6 would remain upon completion. Today, the entire frontage of the building along Corbett is one long curb cut. In place of the open garage there, would be an apartment with front-facing windows, unit entry and landscaping – creating a softer and safer sidewalk environment for the 37 Corbett, which stops there today.
7 of the 8 units added would face Market St. Whereas this is the lowest point of the site, it is still elevated so high that the new apartments would all have views of the East Bay. Adding these apartments within the existing envelope still allows them exceptional access to light, air, and views.
