Tell Lawmakers to Support the Full Integration of New Americans in New Mexico!
HB 124, the New Americans in Workforce Solutions Department, would strengthen engagement with immigrant workers and support their integration into New Mexico's state economy. This bill would help facilitate immigrant families’ social, cultural, and economic integration, supports workforce development, and addresses critical labor shortages in our state.
HB 124 would codify the Office of New Americans in statute, formalizing its role within the Department of Workforce Solutions (DWS). HB 124 would also direct the Office to develop recommendations to improve coordination between DWS workforce programs and New Mexico’s refugee resettlement system, strengthening alignment between workforce development and newcomer integration efforts.
If enacted, New Mexico would join a small group of states—including Nevada, Colorado, North Dakota, Ohio, and Utah—that recognize workforce investment as a nonpartisan priority and have established statewide Offices of New Americans to strengthen and support immigrant workers as a key part of their economic strategy.
