For years Gainesville has been studying how we make our city the most connected city in America, bringing affordable, fiber internet to everyone’s home. The results have shown it’s not just feasible, but a the clear solution for our community:

• Creates over $73 million in profit for Gainesville
  

• Provides low-cost internet for thousands of children to bridge the digital divide

In 2021 the Biden administration gave us the chance: the American Rescue Plan gave our city funds that can be used to create the first step of this system, focusing on our working-class neighborhoods first.

Now, Cox Communications is lobbying hard to stop it, and many on our commission are getting cold feet and trying to kill the plan.
