Across Washington State, public school districts are facing worsening budget crises -- and that was before the federal government began slashing education spending. But there's good news at last: legislators have proposed spending $4 billion per year, funded by a Financial Intangibles Tax on roughly 4,300 of the state's wealthiest residents!

A growing number of school districts have already cut programs, laid off teachers, packed students into classrooms with more than 40 students to a teacher, and even closed schools. Several districts are under fiscal monitoring by the state and many more will follow — unless state legislators pass and Governor Bob Ferguson signs this proposal to fully fund our schools as the state constitution requires.

Polling shows 65% of the public supports this proposal, so we're not asking our state's leaders to do anything difficult or unpopular.

This is a make-or-break moment for our public schools. We need to demand that legislators pass and Governor Ferguson sign SB 5797 to spend $4 billion a year for our public schools.

Will you take a moment and write to Governor Ferguson and our state legislators and urge them to step up and commit to amply funding our public schools -- and pass SB 5797?
