Support The Insulin Cost Cap

According to the American Diabetes Association, of the over 30 million people living with diabetes in the United States, approximately 7.4 million rely on a daily dose of insulin for their survival. A recent state health report goes on to say that one out of every four Delaware adults either live with diabetes or are at risk for developing it. Despite the fact that demand for insulin has remained steady, the Health Care Cost Institute reported that in just four years, the cost of insulin almost doubled, with the average cost per patient in the United States in 2016 totaling roughly $5,705 a year, a staggering increase from the roughly $2,864-per-year cost in 2012.

Such extreme increases have forced even diabetics with health insurance to make extraordinary sacrifices that affect them and their loved ones. Some people have had to travel abroad to get their hands on life-saving medication. Others have resorted to rationing their insulin, which is dangerous and could result in tragic and preventable deaths.

Today, we are asking you to help Delaware take the lead in making insulin more affordable for people with diabetes statewide. Drawing from successful legislation across the country, HB 263 would put a cap of $100 per month on insulin for Delawareans with an individual, group, or state insurance plans. Add your voice and stand with Delawareans with diabetes to demand real change that will improve and even save lives.
