Stanford has announced that it will not allow trans women to compete on its sports teams. This is a shameful betrayal of trans students, of those who love and care about trans people, and of human rights and dignity. If Stanford will not stand against discrimination and bigotry, what does it stand for? Stanford is an immensely wealthy and powerful organization. It ought to use its power to support the rights of its most vulnerable community members and to create space for other, less powerful organizations and people to stand up against hate.
