Take Action: Tell Congress to Protect Public Education

Pennsylvania students and communities depend on more than $1 billion in federal funding to support their local public schools, including funding for Title I and IDEA, which support at-risk students and students with disabilities.
Any cut in federal funding will blow open a hole in school district budgets. In order to fill this hole districts will need to raise local property taxes or they will need to lay off teachers and eliminate programs and services that students depend on to balance their budgets.
Making matters worse, Congress is also considering legislation thta would create a new $10 billion private school voucher program, which would create tax havens for the rich while hypercharging school privatization and further draining resources available to support the public schools in every corner of the commonwealth.
Tell your senator and representative to support public schools and students in the communities they represent and to oppose the creation of a new federal voucher program.
In addition, urge them to use the power of Congress to reinstate employees at US Department of Education to ensure that Pennsylvania's students and communities will continue to have access to the funding and programs they depend on.
